Extraordinary Regularization 2026: What documents you must start looking for TODAY

The deadline for the extraordinary regularization of foreigners in 2026 is expected to open in early April, but the clock is already ticking. Hundreds of thousands of people are going to submit their files at the same time to the new Processing Unit (UTEX). If you wait until the last minute to gather your "immigration papers", you could be left out due to bureaucratic slowness.

At inforegularizacion2026.es we explain exactly what proofs and documents you must start collecting today to secure your residence and work permit.

Key requirements: What do we have to prove to Immigration?

For your file to be approved, the documents you present must prove three non-negotiable things:

  • That you entered and were in Spain before December 31, 2025.
  • That you have at least five months of continuous stay at the time of submitting the application (in the spring of 2026).
  • That you lack a criminal record.

List of documents to prove your stay in Spain

The law allows you to prove your stay with "any public or private document, or a combination of both". But, in practice, some documents carry much more weight than others. Start looking for these:

1. The Municipal Registry (Padrón - The king of proofs)

It is the strongest document. If you registered on the Padrón before December 31, 2025, you are halfway there.

What to do today: Request a Historical Registration Certificate at your Town Hall. Check that the dates are correct and there are no gaps in your registration.

2. Medical and Public Health History

If you do not have a Padrón, public administration records are your best alternative.

What to do today: Gather emergency reports, appointments at the health center, electronic prescriptions in your name, or the health card (even the provisional one). Any health system document dated before 2026 is gold.

3. Bank movements and money transfers

The economic trail proves that you were living and consuming in Spain.

Do you meet the requirements to regularize?

What to do today: Download bank statements showing purchases in Spanish supermarkets, public transport card top-ups, or receipts for money transfers to your home country made from locutorios in Spain during 2025.

4. The Asylum receipt

If you requested international protection, the new law allows you to access this regularization without waiting for asylum to be denied.

What to do today: Keep the "White Sheet" or the "Red Card" like a treasure. As long as your asylum application has an entry date prior to December 31, 2025, it is sufficient proof of your legal stay.

Careful with Criminal Records: Request them in time

One of the most common reasons for denial in immigration is presenting expired or non-legalized criminal records.

You will need the criminal record certificate from your country of origin (and from the countries where you have lived for the last 5 years).

Warning: They must be Apostilled (or legalized) and, if they are not in Spanish, translated by a Sworn Translator. Given that embassies are going to collapse, we recommend you start managing this document with your family in your home country right now.

Do you need help preparing your 2026 Regularization?

The mere admission of your file will grant you a receipt with which you can work legally on a provisional basis. Don't risk presenting incomplete papers that delay your process.
